Enugu: EFCC Arrests Man Over Alleged ₦10m Land Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a man identified as Ifeanyi Mba over an alleged ₦10 million land fraud in Enugu State.

Mba was apprehended by the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the EFCC after a petitioner alleged that he paid the suspect ₦10 million for a plot of land at Plot 677 Owo/Premier Layout, Ogui Nike community, Enugu State.

According to the Commission, the petitioner discovered that the land was being developed by unknown persons.

When the petitioner contacted the suspect about the development, the suspect claimed that he had been informed the property was government-owned.

“Subsequently, all efforts made by the petitioner to recover his money proved abortive as the suspect remained incommunicado.

“Preliminary investigations by the EFCC showed that there is no layout bearing Plot 677 Owo/ Premier within the government acquired areas and that Owo/Premier layouts are two separate layouts,” the anti-graft agency stated.

It added that the suspect will be charged in court after the investigations are concluded.
