Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Thursday raided illegal drug spots in the territory, arresting 8 suspects as well as recovering ammunition and hard drugs in the process.
The areas raided include SDP Junction (Gwagwalada), Lugbe Federal Housing (Tipper Garage), Wuse Zone 5 by Access Bank and AYA Roundabout.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, who disclosed this in a statement said that the anti-narcotics unit of the Command successfully executed a series of coordinated raids targeting the identified hotspots across the territory.
Adeh stated that the locations were known to be used by criminal elements for the sale and consumption of illicit drugs and substances.
“During the operation, suspects at the respective locations attempted to flee on sighting the Police operatives but were swiftly pursued. This led to the arrest of eight (8) suspects and the recovery of the following exhibits: One hundred (100) rounds of live 7.62 x 39mm ammunition, a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis and a substantial amount of encapsulated illicit drugs,” she stated.
The spokesperson said that the operations highlight the Command’s dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, stressing that the FCT Police remains resolute in its fight against the menace of illicit drug activities within the territory.
On his part, the Commissioner of FCT Police Command, CP Olatunji Disu urged members of the public to continue supporting the security agency by reporting suspicious activities promptly.
