
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 59 suspected internet fraudsters — 47 in Benin City, Edo State, and 12 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
According to the EFCC, the 47 suspects were apprehended by operatives of its Benin Zonal Directorate on Friday, August 15, 2025, following credible intelligence linking them to fraudulent internet activities.
A pump-action rifle and live cartridges were recovered from one of the suspects.
“Other items recovered from them include six vehicles, mobile phones, and laptop computers.
“They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the Commission stated.
The anti-graft agency also revealed that the other 12 suspects were nabbed by its Uyo Zonal Directorate in a sting operation conducted around Stadium Road, Unity Road, and Ekpri Nsukara areas of Akwa Ibom.
EFCC noted that they were arrested following credible intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet crimes.
“Items recovered from them include 20 mobile phones and three laptops,” it said, adding that they will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
