Internet Fraud: EFCC Arrests 65 Suspects in Benin, Akwa Ibom

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 65 suspected internet fraudsters — 47 in Benin City, Edo State, and 18 in Akwa Ibom State.

EFCC disclosed that the 47 suspects were apprehended by operatives of its Benin Zonal Directorate on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at various locations across the state, based on credible intelligence regarding their alleged involvement in internet-related fraud.

“Items recovered from them include 16 exotic cars and phones. The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the Commission said.

The anti-graft agency also revealed that the other 18 suspects were nabbed by operatives of its Uyo Zonal Directorate on the same day at Ikot Ekpene, Nelson Mandela Street, Ikot-Udoro, and Tippa Road areas of Akwa Ibom.

EFCC noted that an intelligence-driven string operation led to the apprehension of the suspects, who are between the ages of 19 and 28.

“Items recovered from them include three cars, 30 mobile phones, three laptops, and a wristwatch,” it stated, adding that they will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
