
The Kebbi State Police Command has announced the arrest of three suspects for motorcycle theft and homicide.
The arrested suspects are Muhammad Sa’idu (22), Kabiru Suleiman, and Jame Jidda (22).
According to a statement issued by the Command‘s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, Sa’idu from Kwanga village and Suleiman from Warrah town, Ngaski Local Government Area of the state, were apprehended on November 20 at about 07:30hrs by the Divisional Police Officer, Warah, for stealing a Bajaj motorcycle belonging to one Murtala Ibrahim of Warrah town.
CSP Abubakar revealed that during interrogation, they confessed to conspiring with one Abdulrahman of Tungan Mairuwa village; Hassan Kamaye and Hussaini Kamaye, both of Auna town, Magama LGA of Niger State; noting that Yahuza Aliyu and Umar Kapon are still at large.
“When a search was conducted at the residence of Yahuza Aliyu, the following items namely; two sewing machines, two boat engines, three pumping machines, two generator sets, two grinding machines, one plasma TV, four motorcycles, one 6kg gas cylinder cooker, two big solar panels, and three motorcycle tanks were recovered as exhibits,” the statement noted.
Similarly, at about 07:00hrs on November 24, information was received that one Salihu Hassan, 17, of Gura Guri village, Makera district, Birnin Kebbi LGA, was found lying in pool of his own blood at Ilelaryari area, Birnin Kebbi.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised a team of policemen and vigilantes to the scene and swiftly evacuated the victim to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, where a medical practitioner certified him dead.
Consequently, Jidda was arrested in connection with the case. “In the course of preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to having used a shape knife to stab the deceased in the neck as a result of mere argument,” the spokesperson said.
He added that efforts are being intensified to recover the exhibits and transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Commenting on the arrests, the Kebbi Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, appealed to youths in the state to always seek redress from appropriate authorities when aggrieved, instead of resorting to self-help.
