Kebbi Police Arrest Suspected Bandit, Recover 10 Rustled Cows

The Kebbi State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspected bandit identified as Salihu Umar.

Umar (42), from the Dogon Dutse area of Niger Republic was apprehended at the Bachaka cattle market with ten rustled cows at about 5:30 p.m. on August 31, 2025, following credible intelligence on the criminal act.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

CSP Abubakar revealed that the cows belonged to Usman Aliyu of Zogirma town, Bunza LGA of Kebbi State, whose 68 cows were rustled on August 20, 2025, by suspected Lakurawa bandits and taken across the border to Niger Republic.

Commenting on the breakthrough, the Kebbi Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, commended the bravery and intelligence led policing strategy displayed by the Bachaka DPO and his men — and charged them to sustain the momentum.

CP Sani directed the DPO to transfer the case to the State Criminal investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi for a discreet investigation, with a view to intensifying efforts to apprehend the remaining fleeing gang members and recover more rustled cows.

He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to its ongoing onslaught against violent crimes to maintain peace and stability in the state.

The CP also appealed to Kebbi residents to remain vigilant and continue to support the police and other security agencies with accurate and timely information for prompt response.
