LASODA Empowers 100 PWDs with Entrepreneurial Skills, Business Registration

The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has organised a capacity-building programme for 100 persons with disabilities (PWDs) with the theme “Building Sustainable Enterprises: Entrepreneurial Growth and Business Registration.”

The programme was held at the STO Resources Centre, Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

In her welcome address, the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Governor for his continuous support toward disability inclusion.

She noted that many persons with disabilities are often excluded from financial support and grants due to the absence of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration, a gap the programme seeks to address.

Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal emphasised LASODA’s commitment to improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities through economic empowerment.

She explained that one of the key objectives of the programme is to support PWDs in establishing practical, sustainable, and continuous businesses.

According to her, the initiative also focuses on preparing participants for business management, financial literacy, and proper record-keeping.

She stressed the importance of business documentation and record keeping, noting that CAC registration is a prerequisite for accessing most financial grants and business opportunities.

She further highlighted the need to conduct business in the right manner to ensure sustainability and to build lasting legacies that can be passed on to future generations.

Encouraging participants to overcome fear, Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal stated that successful entrepreneurs are those who take calculated risks. She spoke extensively on business management, financial stability, and the need for PWDs to adopt modern business approaches, including leveraging social media platforms and ensuring high product quality.

The programme featured expert facilitators who delivered lectures on various aspects of business development. The first lecture was delivered by Mrs. Adetutu Adedayo Ijasan, who spoke on “Taxation in Nigeria.”

She educated participants on the new tax system in Nigeria and the fundamental principles of bookkeeping, guiding them on compliance with current tax policies.

Another session was led by Mr. Taiwo Shakiru Ogungbenro, an expert consultant, who delivered an insightful lecture on Business Management and Entrepreneurship, equipping participants with practical knowledge for business growth and sustainability.

Speaking to journalists at the event, Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal reiterated the importance of business inclusion for persons with disabilities. She disclosed that the initiative began last year in response to the limited opportunities available to PWDs due to a lack of CAC registration.

She explained that the programme is designed to bridge this gap, open doors of opportunity, and encourage serious-minded PWD entrepreneurs to explore and maximise available business prospects.

Participants expressed gratitude to LASODA and the Lagos State Government for the laudable initiative. One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Yemisi Ishola Alabi, commended the inclusive approach of the Lagos State Government, stating that her participation in the programme has significantly boosted her business.
