English club, Manchester United have announced the arrival of a new manager, Ruben Amorim following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal on Monday.
Amorim is expected to officially join the Red Devils on Monday, November 11, 2024.
“It’s done. Bem-vindo ao Manchester United, Ruben Amorim,” (meaning Welcome to Manchester United), the club said announcing the signing of their new gaffer.
As part of the deal, United will pay a compensation fee (exit clause) of around €11m to Sporting CP for releasing Amorim from his contract.
The 39-year-old signed a contract until June 2027, with an option for a further season.
He joined Sporting in 2020, and won the Portuguese League (Primeira Liga) in the 2020/2021 and 2023/2024 seasons respectively.
Amorim also claimed the Portuguese League Cup (Taca da Liga) in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 seasons consecutively.
However, Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue as interim manager when Manchester United hosts Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea in a highly anticipated Premier League game at Old Trafford on Sunday.
