‘NDC’s One-Term Southern Presidential Ticket Zoning Political 419,’ Says Keyamo

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has criticised the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)’s decision to zone its presidential ticket to the South for a single term, describing it as “political 419.”
ThelensNG reports that, ahead of the 2027 elections, the NDC zoned its presidential ticket to the South for one term at its maiden national convention held in Abuja on Saturday.
Reacting to the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Keyamo described the move as an audacious attempt to hoodwink Nigerians.
“It reminds us of the undertaking by Jonathan in 2011 to serve just one full term and quit,” he stated. “So, what happens if Peter Obi changes his party, assuming he wins, or as leader of the NDC he gets the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to reverse the decision in the unlikely event that he wins?”
The Minister noted that the decision was an insult to Nigerians’ sensibilities, stressing that it reflects desperation and highlights the opposition’s dilemma ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“It is just a joke taken too far; it is nothing but political 419,” he added.
