NDLEA Seizes N2.6bn Codeine, N972m Cannabis in Lagos Raids
Nabs 50-year-old with 1,244 Cartridges, N8m in Delta
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized 377,600 bottles of codeine-based syrup valued at over N2.6 billion and 324 kilograms of Colorado cannabis worth N972 million in separate intelligence-led operations in Lagos.
The NDLEA disclosed this in a statement by its spokesman, Femi Babafemi, made available to ThelensNG on Sunday.
The NDLEA operatives, acting on credible intelligence, raided a warehouse within a residential compound at 20 Hakeem Dosumu Street, Ago Palace area of Okota, Lagos, where they discovered 3,776 cartons containing 377,600 bottles of codeine-based syrup between Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8, 2026.
In another intelligence-led operation, the operatives on Friday, August 14, raided the residence of a 55-year-old drug kingpin, Shoremi Kayode, at 37 Ogundare Street, Ipaja Estate, Ipaja area of Lagos, where 324kg of Colorado, a synthetic strain of cannabis, valued at N972 million was recovered.
Two vehicles, a Mercedes-Benz and a Toyota Corolla, were also recovered from the suspect.
In Delta State, NDLEA operatives on Wednesday, August 12, arrested 50-year-old Emeka Tony along the Kwale/Ozoro Expressway with 1,244 pieces of cartridges and monetary exhibit of N8 million.
Also, 124,100 pills of tramadol, 786 bottles of codeine-based syrup, 2,598 tablets of Rohypnol, 4,800 tablets of diazepam, 470 ampoules of pentazocine injection and 200 ampoules of tramadol injection were recovered from two suspects, Osaro Ikpoba, 43, and Samuel Godbless, 18, along the Onitsha/Asaba Expressway on Thursday, August 13.
In Edo State, a total of 4,628.9775kg of skunk was destroyed on two cannabis farms measuring 1.851591 hectares at the Ugboku/Igbanke forest in Orhionmwon Local Government Area. A 40-year-old suspect, Agholor Elebojie, was arrested in one of the farms during the raid on Wednesday, August 12.
Another suspect, 28-year-old Kingsley Anigala, was arrested with 25.857kg of Loud and 93 grams of methamphetamine during a raid on drug joints in the Oluku area of Benin City on Friday, August 14.
