The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched a Management Information System (MIS) File Tracker at the Ports and Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command in a bid to enhance digital administration within the Service.
The Command‘s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Abdullahi Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement.
Speaking on the development, the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, described the initiative as part of efforts to deepen the use of technology to simplify personnel administration and promote speed and efficiency in document processing.
Represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of ICT/Modernisation, DCG Oluyomi Adebakin, CGC Adeniyi stated that the initiative represents another milestone in the Service’s expanding modernisation agenda, which is focused on deploying digital solutions to improve operational efficiency, enhance transparency, and facilitate seamless trade.
He reaffirmed the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to leveraging technology to transform its operations and improve service delivery.
The Customs boss noted that, as the driving force behind several landmark digital initiatives, including the Nigeria Trade Portal and the Customs Verification Management System, the deployment of the MIS File Tracker further demonstrates the Service’s resolve to embrace innovation in line with global best practices.
He explained that the introduction of the MIS File Tracker would further strengthen the Command‘s reputation as a centre for innovation within the NCS through key features that promote ease of administration.
Adeniyi added that the MIS is an enterprise platform for all Customs administrative processes and serves as a Single Sign-On (SSO) application, enabling a unified data set to be used across all departments for administrative purposes.
He also urged officers to utilise the application for key administrative functions, including leave and pass applications, file tracking, duty rosters, internal staff orders, nominal rolls, and other administrative processes.
According to him, the platform also provides avenues for feedback on areas requiring modifications, additions, and improvements. The deployment is expected to streamline internal workflows, reduce manual processes, and support data-driven decision-making across the Service.
The PTML Area Command, widely regarded as one of the most technologically advanced commands in the Service, has continued to serve as the preferred pilot location for cutting-edge Customs modernisation projects, including the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), also known as B’Odogwu.
In his remarks, the Acting Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, expressed optimism about the Command’s ability to successfully implement the rollout and serve as a model for Customs innovation.
DC Miko said that the Command is maximising all technology-driven trade facilitation initiatives introduced by the NCS management.
While thanking the Comptroller-General for his unwavering confidence in the Command’s ability to deliver efficiently, the Acting Controller disclosed that efforts are underway to reduce the two-hour cargo clearance time for compliant RoRo cargoes to one hour.
He described the innovation as a bold step towards sustaining the NCS’s position as a leading Customs administration in Africa and reiterated that the PTML Area Command would justify the confidence reposed in it by ensuring the successful implementation of the MIS File Tracker from rollout to full deployment.
