Nigeria’s Refusal to Join BRICS is Retrogressive to Economic Future – Shehu Sani

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Mr. Shehu Sani has disclosed that Nigeria’s refusal to join BRICS is retrogressive to its economic future.

BRICS, established in 2010 is an intergovernmental organization derived from the first letter of its member nations; Brazil, Russia, India, China and subsequently, South Africa.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sani on Wednesday advised Nigeria not to miss out on the economic importance of the organization, adding that we should be part of it now.

He said: “Nigeria’s refusal or failure to join BRICS is retrogressive to our economic future. We can’t afford to lose out in an economic alliance that offers an alternative to the unjust and exploitative order that we belonged for decades.

“Our quest to continue to be the apprentice of Western economic system is leading us to nowhere. BRICS is where we should be now not later.”

The organization has increased in numbers following the addition of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates on January 1, 2024.
