NNS Beecroft Hands Over 172kg of Cannabis to NDLEA

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft has handed over about 172 kilograms of seized cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Marine Command.

The consignment, contained in four bags, was intercepted on November 24, 2025, by the NNS Beecroft Quick Response Team following credible intelligence and was handed over on Monday, December 1, 2025.

The naval team stopped a van suspected to be conveying illicit substances around the Ijegun waterside axis, leading to the successful recovery of the narcotics.

Speaking at the handover, the Commander of NNS Beecroft, Commodore P.P. Nimmyel, who was represented by the Executive Officer, Captain Idongesit Udoessien, said the seizure was part of sustained efforts by the Nigerian Navy to curb illegal activities within the nation’s maritime domain.

He noted that under the leadership of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, the Navy had intensified operations aimed at combating drug trafficking and other forms of transnational crime along Nigeria’s coastal and inland waterways.

Captain Udoessien reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding lives and property, while commending the professionalism and vigilance of personnel involved in the operation.

He also urged members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance public safety.

The seized cannabis was formally handed over to the Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Morrison Udo, who represented the NDLEA, for further investigation and prosecution in line with the law.
