Omokri Backs Seyi Tinubu’s ‘Contribution’ to Father’s Govt., Cites Barron Trump’s US Election Role
Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan has come out in defence of Seyi Tinubu’s contribution to his father, President Bola Tinubu’s election and administration, stating that it is ‘neither illegal nor unusual’.
Omokri compared Seyi’s role to that of Barron Trump, son of the United States (U.S.) President, Donald Trump, noting that Barron played a crucial role in his father’s victory.
Recall that Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the U.S. in Washington D.C. on Monday, January 20, 2025.
“I hope Nigerians saw how President Trump publicly and proudly acknowledged his son, Barron Trump, for playing an integral part in his victory by getting him on the biggest and most listened-to podcasts targeting the Gen Z crowd. He openly stated that Barron would have a formal or informal role to play in his government, which is as it should be.
“This is not the first time. In the previous Trump administration, Ivanka played that role. Hopefully, those who have attacked and attempted to create controversies out of Seyi Tinubu’s contribution to his father’s election and work to ensure the success of the Tinubu administration can see that what Seyi is doing is neither illegal nor unusual,” Omokri wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.
He continued: “George W. Bush did it when his father, George H. W. Bush, was President. Sir Mark Thatcher did it to an even higher degree when his mother, Margaret Thatcher, was Prime Minister. While Gilbert, Pascal and Jean-Christophe did it when their father, François Mitterrand, was President of France.”
According to him, Hunter Biden was very involved in his father’s government, explaining that the only difference is that he lacked capacity, while Seyi Tinubu is resourceful.
He argued that if Barron Trump can do it at 18, there is nothing wrong if Seyi Tinubu does it at 39.
“The young man is an Omoluabi atata!” the social media influencer said. (Omoluabi atata: Yoruba words meaning a person of exceptional good character).
He emphasised that “when you elect a President, you also select his family as the first family”, which comes with privileges and responsibilities.
“It is not President Tinubu’s fault if your own son is busy in London living a life you do not want to be brought into the spotlight or if others have children who are not so independently successful.
“Seyi Tinubu is an independently successful young man with strong patriotic credentials. He deserves to contribute his quota to the success of his father’s government without being attacked by people who are not proud enough of their own offspring to bring them to the limelight,” the columnist added.
