Governor Ademola Adeleke has been re-elected for a second four-year term in Osun State, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, declared the result at the INEC Collation Centre in Osogbo early Sunday.
Adeleke polled a total of 511,067 votes, winning 19 out of the 30 local government areas to emerge as the winner.
APC’s Oyebamiji came second with 444,815 votes, while Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 17,180 votes.
“For that, Adeleke Ademola Jackson of the Accord Party, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is hereby returned elected,” Ogunwole stated.
According to Ogunwole, 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the poll; 1,005,800 votes were cast in the election, while 985,079 valid votes were recorded.
Adeleke contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which he won his first term.
