The Rivers State Police Command has queried and relieved the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the Divisional Officer overseeing the Abuloma Police Outpost of their duties following allegations that suspected cultists renovated the facility and visited it to celebrate the completion of the project.
The action follows a trending social media report and circulating video alleging that the suspected cultists visited the police outpost on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to celebrate the completion of the renovation.
The Command has also ordered a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and verify the allegations.
The investigation will examine the identities and backgrounds of the individuals or groups who financed or facilitated the renovation, the police officers who authorised or approved the project, whether due procedures were followed, and whether any personnel breached professional standards or compromised the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, the Command condemned any action or association capable of compromising police discipline, professional standards, and public confidence in the Force.
The Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju, said that it maintained zero tolerance for criminality and conduct capable of undermining public trust in the Police.
It acknowledged that legitimate community support for improving police facilities was permitted under Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, which provides for gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund.
However, it stated that such support must not compromise police independence, professional standards or security. The investigation will determine whether the necessary approvals were obtained and appropriate checks conducted on those who financed or facilitated the renovation.
The Command stressed that donations or assistance would not confer immunity from investigation or prosecution.
It further affirmed that disciplinary and legal action would be taken against anyone found culpable, in accordance with the outcome of the investigation and applicable laws.
The Command urged members of the public to remain calm and continue to provide credible and timely information to support security efforts across Rivers State.
