Tin Can Customs Collects ₦111.2bn Revenue in One Month

The Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has generated a total of ₦111.2 billion in revenue in May 2026, reinforcing its position as one of the Service’s leading revenue-generating commands.

The achievement comes as the newly deployed Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Joseph Anani, pledged to build on the performance and further boost revenue collection through stronger compliance, enhanced operational processes, and closer stakeholder collaboration.

Speaking during his maiden engagement with maritime journalists at the Command headquarters on Wednesday, Anani attributed the revenue growth to the dedication of officers, increasing compliance by stakeholders, and ongoing improvements in the Command’s operations.

He assured stakeholders that the Command would sustain the momentum through enhanced enforcement measures, stronger collaboration with industry players, and the deployment of technology-driven solutions designed to facilitate legitimate trade, while maximising government revenue.

“I am pleased to inform you that the Command is currently performing commendably in the area of revenue generation. This positive trajectory is a reflection of the dedication of our officers, improved compliance levels, and enhanced operational efficiency. We intend to consolidate on these gains and indeed strive to surpass previous achievements under the preceding administration,” Anani said.

The Customs Area Controller stressed that strict adherence to the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 would remain the cornerstone of the Command’s operations.

According to him, the Command will continue to enforce all relevant laws and regulations firmly, fairly, and professionally while leveraging the ongoing modernization initiatives of the Service to improve efficiency, strengthen compliance, and enhance trade facilitation.

Anani also underscored the strategic importance of the media in supporting Customs operations, describing journalists as critical partners in promoting transparency, accountability, and public understanding of the activities of the Service.

He said the engagement was part of a deliberate effort to strengthen cooperation between the Command and the media, noting that meaningful stakeholder engagement remains a priority since assuming office.

“This meeting marks an important step in our deliberate effort to build stronger bridges of understanding and cooperation between the Command and the media. Since assuming office, I have made it a priority to engage continuously with all critical stakeholders in the maritime sector, and the press remains one of the most vital components in that ecosystem,” he stated.

The Controller assured journalists of regular access to information on the Command’s policies, reforms, operations, and achievements through a transparent and timely communication process.

To further deepen relations with the media, he disclosed that the Public Relations Unit had been specifically mandated to maintain continuous engagement with journalists, facilitate access to relevant information, and promote mutual understanding between the Command and the public.

Anani further pledged support for capacity-building initiatives for media practitioners through structured training programmes, sensitisation workshops, and other interventions aimed at improving understanding of Customs procedures and operations.

While calling for professionalism and responsible journalism, he urged media practitioners to uphold the highest ethical standards in their reportage, emphasising that accurate and balanced reporting remains essential to sustaining public trust and preventing misinformation.

The CAC also expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for the confidence reposed in him through his appointment to lead one of Nigeria’s most strategic port commands.

He commended the Comptroller-General’s leadership and ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the Nigeria Customs Service for greater efficiency, enhanced service delivery, and global competitiveness.

Anani reiterated the Command’s commitment to constructive engagement with stakeholders in advancing national economic growth, trade facilitation, and revenue generation.
