WCO: AMJON Hails CGC Adeniyi’s Emergence as Chairperson, Reposes Confidence in His Leadership

The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has congratulated the Comptroller General, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi on his recent election as the Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO).

In a statement signed by its President, Kelvin Kagbare, AMJON stated that Adeniyi’s emergence is a testament to his two years of exceptional, purposeful, impactful and dedicated leadership to the NCS.

According to the association, Adeniyi’s election accentuates his outstanding achievements and visionary leadership as a career Customs officer who rose through the ranks and spent the greater part of his career as the image maker of the Service.

“Within this short time in office, CGC Adeniyi has facilitated trade, achieved astronomical revenue generation, improved staff welfare, and strengthened the country’s border security.

“We can affirm that his commitment to modernising the Customs administration and enhancing maritime trade has earned him this global appointment.

“As the foremost maritime journalists association in Nigeria, AMJON is proud to felicitate with him at this auspicious moment, as well as express our appreciation of his efforts in upscaling the image of the Nigeria Customs Service through his regular stakeholders engagement, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects across Nigeria”, the statement partly read.

AMJON further noted that Adeniyi’s election as the Chairperson of the 73 years old world apex Customs policy-making body, his expertise and experience will undoubtedly benefit the global Customs community, the Nigeria Customs and the Nigerian economy.

The association expressed confidence in his leadership to foster cooperation, modernisation, and capacity building among member countries, ultimately enhancing international trade and economic development globally.

It enthused that Adeniyi’s tenure will promote Nigeria’s interest and perspectives in global Customs discussions, enhance regional cooperation and integration, trade facilitation as well as foster knowledge sharing and capacity building among member countries.

“His election is a proud moment for Nigeria and the maritime community, demonstrating the country’s growing influence in global affairs.

“AMJON is assured that his leadership will inspire positive change and drive progress in the Customs profession worldwide. We sincerely thank the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for believing in him.
