₦33.8bn Money Laundering: Court Orders Forfeiture of Ex-Minister Saleh Mamman’s Properties After 75-Year Jail Term

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, has ordered the forfeiture of five properties belonging to former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, who is serving a 75-year jail term for money laundering involving ₦33.8 billion.

This comes after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted Mamman before Justice Omotosho on an amended 12-count charge of corruption and money laundering involving ₦33.8 billion. Consequently, Justice Omotosho convicted him on all 12 counts on May 7, 2026, and sentenced him to 75 years’ imprisonment on May 13, 2026.

According to the EFCC, the judge issued the interim and final forfeiture orders on July 2.

The Commission disclosed that the property permanently forfeited was Walijam Apartments, located at No. 43, Plot 435, Lobito Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja.

Similarly, the properties forfeited on an interim basis are Bloom Luxury Suites Nigeria Limited, located at No. 5 Amana Crescent, New Estate, Unguwan Rimi, Kaduna State; a mansion at No. 11 Misratah Street, Wuse 2, Abuja; another at No. 13 Misratah Street, Wuse 2, Abuja; and A.U.A Plaza on Plot 734, Kade Street, Wuse 2, Abuja.

The anti-graft agency noted that, in his ruling on the final forfeiture application, Justice Omotosho held that it had established that the convict acquired Walijam Apartments with proceeds of unlawful activities.

The judge also ordered the Commission to publish the interim forfeiture order in a national newspaper within seven days, directing interested parties to appear before the court and show cause why the other four properties should not be finally forfeited to the Federal Government.

While reiterating that ill-gotten assets were recovered from him during the trial, the Commission confirmed that the judge also ordered Mamman to refund the ₦22 billion it had traced to him.
