2027: ‘Take Some Time from Social Media to Contest Elections’, Ex-Senator Tells Youths

Ahead of the 2027 elections, a former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has advised Nigerian youths to reduce the time they spend on social media and prioritise contesting for electoral seats.

Sani gave the advice on Tuesday, reminding young people of their eligibility to contest elections.

“Dear Gen Z, Just a reminder on the ages you can contest elections: President – 35 years, Senate – 35 years, Reps – 25 years, Governor – 35 years, House of Assembly – 25 years, Council Chairman – 30 years, Councillor – 25 years,” he stated on X (formerly Twitter).

The human rights activist pointed out that most of the people in power today were about the same age as today’s youths when democracy returned in 1999.

“Spare some time from the social media and take up the challenge,” he remarked.
