2027: ‘I Didn’t Say I’m Running for President’ – AfDB Boss, Adesina

The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, has refuted the reports about his potential candidacy for Nigeria’s presidency in year 2027.

This comes on the heels of a recent interview with Arise TV. However, Mr. Adesina, reacting to the reports in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, said that he was “misinterpreted and misrepresented”.

He wrote: “A segment of my recent interview on @ARISEtv has been both misinterpreted and misrepresented in several Nigerian media outlets.

“What I said was, “I will be available to serve in any capacity, globally, in Africa, anywhere, including my own country.”

The AfDB boss explained that a listen to the substantive and robust interview, which is available online, will show this to be the case.

He reiterated: “For clarity and for the record, I did not say that I am running for the office of President of Nigeria.”
