
The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reiterated its commitment to protecting the critical national, state, and local government assets in the state.
NSCDC also reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives, highlighting the pivotal role the assets and people play in fostering national cohesion, development, and unity.
The State Commandant, Maku Olatunde, made these remarks during a one- day stakeholders’ forum organised by the Anambra State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), themed “Pathway to National Cohesion, Development and Unity”, held in in Awka on Friday, July, 4, 2025.
This is according to a statement issued by the NSCDC‘s Head of Media and Tactical Operations, Superintendent of Corps, SC Okadigbo Edwin.
In his remarks, Commandant Olatunde, who was represented by Superintendent of Corps, Afunanya Nneka, emphasised the need for all Nigerians to work together and remain united in supporting the efforts of security agencies to promote unity and cohesion in tackling social vices across the country.
Olatunde said that NSCDC’s efforts in this regard are guided by its core mandate of protecting critical assets and infrastructure, and a deep understanding of the intricate relationship between security, development, and national unity.
“By protecting critical infrastructure and assets, the Corps helps to prevent disruptions to economic activities, reduce the risk of social unrest, and promote an environment conducive to growth and development,” he said.
He commended the NOA for organising the national engagement, describing it as a timely initiative to tackle pressing security and unity issues, including insurgency, vandalism, banditry, extremism, youth restiveness, political thuggery, herder-farmer conflict, and secessionist agitation, that necessitate community-based approaches.
On her part, the Director of the NOA Anambra State Directorate, Mr. Edozie Ajaegbu, explained that national development and unity are contingent upon citizens’ willingness to cooperate with security agencies and live in harmony, transcending religious and other differences.
Ajaegbu noted that the NOA will continue to undertake targeted advocacy campaigns and sensitisation initiatives to tackle the distinct security and unity challenges facing different regions and states in the country.
