The Enugu State Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers and recovered three firearms, along with other incriminating items, during separate operations across the state.
The arrested suspects are Okechukwu Anthony, Chukwudi Stephen Ngwu, Chibuike Ohaekelem, and Oluchukwu Stanley.
This is according to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Thursday.
SP Ndukwe noted that the arrests highlight the Command’s proactive efforts under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, to rid the state of criminal elements.
“On 17th March 2025, at about 11:40 p.m., police operatives of the Command attached to Ikirike Division and the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, while on routine patrol along Agbani Road, swiftly responded to a distress call that led to the arrest of one Okechukwu Anthony (male, aged 25).
“The suspect was arrested for attempting to rob a male victim of a smart wristwatch. A locally fabricated pistol, resembling a Beretta but without a magazine or ammunition, was recovered from him,” he stated.
Ndukwe continued: “Similarly, at about 3:15 p.m. the same date, operatives of the 9th Mile Division, acting on credible information about an ongoing armed robbery along Uzo-Nwa Money, Ngwo, in Udi LGA, moved swiftly to the scene.
“On sighting the police, the hoodlums fled, but with the support of vigilant citizens, two male suspects, Chukwudi Stephen Ngwu (aged 36) and Chibuike Ohaekelem (aged 23), were arrested, while one other escaped.
“A locally fabricated pistol, also Beretta-like without a magazine or ammunition, and a small bag of rice were recovered. Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspects, together with their fleeing accomplice, had boarded the victim’s tricycle from New Market, Enugu, along with the bag of rice, to the scene where they robbed him.”
In a related development, police operatives attached to Ogui Division, in collaboration with law-abiding citizens at about 4:10 a.m. arrested a man identified as Oluchukwu Stanley (29) on September 15, 2025.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect scaled the fence of a residential compound in Ogui-Nike, Enugu, and attempted to rob a male victim of his phone.
“He was subdued after the victim raised the alarm, and a locally made pistol was recovered from him. The suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations,” the spokesperson added.
Commenting on the arrests, CP Giwa commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism — and reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to rid Enugu State of criminal elements.
He urged members of the public to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.
