NAFDAC Busts Logistics Warehouse Stocked with Banned, Fake Cosmetics Worth Over ₦3bn in Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a logistics company warehouse stocked with banned, fake and unregistered cosmetic products worth over three billion Naira at the APT Trade Fair Complex in Lagos.

The discovery followed what the agency described as credible intelligence, which led a team of NAFDAC Investigation and Enforcement officers to the premises, allegedly operated under the guise of an uncompleted building.

According to NAFDAC, items recovered from the warehouse include 728 cartons of Crusader soap, 718 cartons of E45 soap, and Extract Gold whitening soaps, all of which have been banned by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Other products found at the location include several cartons of assorted perfumes, body oils and cooking oils, which were placed on hold for further regulatory checks.

Due to the sensitive nature of the seized cosmetic products, the agency said they were promptly evacuated to prevent circulation into the market.

NAFDAC warned that the sale and use of such products by unsuspecting Nigerians could result in serious medical and health consequences.

The agency estimated the value of the products recovered from the warehouse at over three billion Naira, noting that the figure represents a significant economic loss, as the goods could only have contributed positively to the economy if they were genuine, properly registered and compliant with regulatory standards.

NAFDAC also disclosed that the manager of the logistics company has been invited for further investigation and interrogation, as enforcement actions continue.

Reiterating its commitment to safeguarding public health, NAFDAC urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving regulated products to the nearest NAFDAC office across the federation.
