Tinubu’s Performance Will Secure APC Victory in 2027 – Nasarawa Governor Sule

The Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, has expressed confidence that the performance of President Bola Tinubu’s administration will secure another electoral victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Governor Sule asserted that the achievements recorded by the Tinubu administration over the past three years, rather than religious considerations, would determine the outcome of next year’s presidential election.

The governor stated that President Tinubu has demonstrated courage, vision, and foresight in implementing reforms across critical sectors, insisting that no opposition candidate could be fairly compared with him based on performance.

“If you look at the records of this President, if you look at the courage of this President, if you look at the performance of this President, if you look at the foresight and what has happened in the last three years, you cannot compare him with any of those people. It is like day and night,” he said.

Sule maintained that the APC government has made notable progress in infrastructure development, education, the economy, and security despite prevailing challenges.

He pointed to the growth of the Nigerian capital market, the implementation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) scheme and ongoing infrastructure projects as evidence that the administration’s reforms are yielding results.

The governor also defended the government’s budget implementation, arguing that budget performance should not be assessed based on isolated sectors.

“You don’t judge budget performance that way. Some sectors receive full releases while others receive less because government expenditure depends on available revenue and other fiscal realities,” he explained.

On security, Sule acknowledged that challenges remain but argued that the situation has improved compared to previous years. “I don’t pretend there is no insecurity, but there has been significant improvement. Security is improving and that is evident.”

Addressing criticisms of the APC’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, the governor dismissed claims that it has led to the marginalisation of Christians, saying such fears have proved unfounded after three years of the Tinubu administration.

He pointed out that the Nigerian Constitution provides for federal character and inclusiveness but does not prescribe religious balancing in the election of political leaders.

“There is no place in the Constitution where religion is mentioned in relation to federal character. The Constitution talks about inclusiveness and representation, not religious quotas,” Sule said.

According to him, critics had predicted that the Muslim-Muslim ticket would produce an administration that favoured Muslims, but the government’s record has disproved those claims. “Three years after, has this government done anything to show that it is more pro-Muslim or anti-Christian? The answer is no,” he remarked.

Sule further noted that several Christian governors have aligned with the Tinubu administration, stressing that such support would not exist if the President was hostile to Christians.

“A lot of Christian governors have come to work with President Tinubu because they know he is not anti-Christian,” he maintained.

The governor attributed persistent criticisms of the administration to political opposition, saying it is natural for opposition parties to portray the government negatively ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Opposition will always say what they want to say. They said it was awful when we won in 2023, and they will say it is awful again when we win in 2027,” he added.
