Why There’s Power Outage – Tegbe

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has attributed the ongoing power outages affecting four states, including Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to planned maintenance at Egbin Power Station, gas supply constraints, and sabotage of key transmission lines.

In a statement dated November 6, 2026, Tegbe noted that the maintenance work and limited gas supply to some thermal power stations had reduced the volume of electricity available on the national grid, prompting grid operators to implement load shedding in some areas.

He stated that the sabotage of critical transmission lines had also restricted the use of alternative routes for electricity supply, particularly in Lagos.

The Minister affirmed that efforts were underway to restore the affected generating units in phases, with the first units expected to return to service within the next 48 to 72 hours.

Tegbe also disclosed that the government was working with operators to improve gas supply and accelerate repairs to the damaged transmission infrastructure.

He thanked affected households and businesses for their patience, assuring that further updates would be provided as electricity supply is gradually restored.
