Customs Mourns as Fire Kills Officer, Wife, 4 Children in Osun

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Oyo/Osun Area Command has announced the tragic demise of Superintendent of Customs (SC) Kabiru Tijani, his wife, and their four children in a fire incident.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Superintendent of Customs, Kayode Wey confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday.

According to him, the incident which he described as heartbreaking occurred in the early hours of Monday, December 2, 2024, at approximately 3:00 am when fire engulfed their residence in Ede, Osun State.

The spokesperson further disclosed that SC Tijani and his family have since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.

The statement read in part: “SC Kabiru Tijani, who served as the Officer in Charge of Operations at the Command, was a dedicated officer.

“His unwavering commitment to duty, particularly in coordinating and executing successful anti-smuggling operations, greatly contributed to the success of the Command.

“His wife, an active member of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) Oyo/Osun Chapter, was equally admired for her contributions to the welfare of the Customs community.

“In the wake of this incident, the Oyo/Osun Area Command wishes to address speculative reports regarding the inferno.

“We urge the public to disregard such unfounded reports as our priority remains to provide support to the bereaved extended family, the lone child survivor and to further investigate the circumstances surrounding this fatal incident”.

On his part, the Customs Area Controller, Dr Ben Oramalugo has commiserated with family and friends of the deceased on behalf of the Officers and Men of the Command.

He further appreciated the prayers and support from the members of the public.

“May the Almighty grant them Al-Janatul Firdaus and give their family the strength to endure this immense loss”, the statement added.
