The Lagos State Police Command has detained an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Omotayo Olajide, following a shooting incident in the Nosamu area of Ajegunle that claimed the life of a little girl, Omole Taiwo, and left another girl injured.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, November 7, 2026, noting that it occurred on Thursday, November 5, between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
According to the statement, preliminary findings revealed that Olajide had been deployed to the area following a distress call over a violent clash between two rival groups, identified as the Nosamu Boys and the Alayabiagba Boys, reportedly fighting over toll collection.
The rival groups were said to have been armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons when the police personnel responded to the incident.
During the operation, Olajide discharged his firearm, and the bullet struck the two girls. They were subsequently rushed to Ajeromi General Hospital for medical attention.
While one of the victims was later transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, where she eventually died, the other girl is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Following the incident, the police officer was disarmed and detained, while the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and impartial investigation.
The Command stated that the investigation would establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and determine the appropriate legal and disciplinary action.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, visited the bereaved family to express his condolences and assured them that justice would be served.
CP Fatai assured the family that no police personnel found culpable in the incident would be shielded from accountability.
The Command urged members of the public with relevant information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station or its Public Relations Department.
It also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased girl.
