Double Honours as Ubogu, Micura Services Clinch MARCON Entrepreneurship, Safety Awards

The Maritime Correspondents’ Organisation of Nigeria (MARCON) has honoured the Managing Director/CEO of Micura Services Limited, High Chief Dr. Michael Ubogu, and the company for their contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s maritime industry.

Ubogu received the MARCON Maritime Entrepreneurship Excellence Award, while Micura Services Limited was presented with the MARCON Most Safety Conscious Dock Labour Employer Award at the Organisation’s National Conference on Sustainable Fishing held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, in Lagos.

The recognition of Ubogu highlights his contribution to the development of indigenous maritime enterprise and the growth of maritime services in Nigeria.

Through his leadership of Micura Services Limited, an indigenous stevedoring and maritime logistics company, Ubogu has contributed to the provision of services within the port environment, including cargo handling, vessel operations, dock labour deployment and terminal support.

According to MARCON, the entrepreneurship recognition reflects Ubogu’s commitment to indigenous participation and the development of maritime services in Nigeria.

Micura Services Limited, in its own recognition, was honoured for its commitment to workplace safety, employee welfare, operational discipline and best practices in dock labour management.

The company has maintained a focus on safety across its cargo handling, vessel operations, dock labour deployment and terminal support services, with emphasis on workforce training, risk management, safety awareness, operational supervision and compliance with health, safety and environmental standards.

MARCON also recognised the company’s contribution to promoting professionalism and responsible labour management within the stevedoring sector, noting the importance of safe and efficient operations to productivity within the nation’s ports.

Chairman of the MARCON Conference Planning Committee, Paul Ogbuokiri, said the two awards reflect the importance of recognising both individual leadership and institutional commitment to the development of Nigeria’s maritime industry.

Ogbuokiri said the recognition of Ubogu and Micura Services Limited demonstrates the value MARCON places on indigenous entrepreneurship, professional maritime services and improved safety standards across the industry.

The awards were presented as part of MARCON’s recognition programme at the conference, themed “Sustainable Fishing in Nigeria: Pathways to Growth, Food Security and Coastal Livelihoods.”
