Eid-el-Fitr: MWUN President General Urges Muslims to Uphold Virtues of Love, Peace and Tolerance 

The President General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu, has called on Muslim faithful to uphold the virtues of love, peace and tolerance as they celebrate Eid-el-Fitr.

In a goodwill message to mark the end of Ramadan, Bunu urged Muslims to emulate the teachings and lifestyle of Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him), noting that the essence of the Eid celebration lies in demonstrating compassion, unity and hope.

He described the Eid-el-Fitr as a significant spiritual milestone following a period of fasting, reflection and renewed devotion to Almighty Allah, stressing that the lessons learnt during Ramadan should not be taken for granted.

According to him, true faith is reflected not only in acts of worship but also in peaceful coexistence with people of other religions.

“Our faith in Almighty Allah will be incomplete if we cannot live harmoniously with people of other faiths. We are all from one Creator, and we must accord one another mutual respect,” he said.

The labour leader emphasised that both Islam and Christianity promote love, peace and charity, adding that differences in worship should not be a basis for division or conflict.

Bunu cautioned against violence carried out in the name of religion, stating that no individual has the right to take another person’s life under the guise of serving God.

“Almighty Allah remains the ultimate judge of all, and no man should assume that role,” he added.

He also expressed concern over ongoing conflicts in parts of the Middle East, describing the crisis as a needless war that continues to cause loss of lives and destruction.

The MWUN President General further called on those perpetrating violence in Nigeria, particularly in the North-East, to lay down their arms and embrace peace, in line with the teachings of Islam as a religion of love and harmony.

Bunu extended his felicitations to Muslims in Nigeria and across the world, urging them to promote unity and work towards building a crime-free society during and beyond the festive period.
