Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Enyimba Football Club, has refuted claims that players’ allowances were increased to ₦3 million each and that vehicles were gifted to them by Governor Alex Otti.
The denial follows reports circulating on social media alleging that gifts and allowances were extended to players, staff, and the technical crew of the club.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Enyimba also denied receiving a ₦200 million donation from business mogul and Chairman of the Cubana Group, Obi Cubana, describing the reports as “false” and “misleading”.
“The attention of Enyimba Football Club (Enyimba FC) has been drawn to certain misleading reports circulating on social media regarding alleged gifts and allowances purportedly extended to players, staff, and the technical crew.
“These reports specifically claim that His Excellency, the Governor, gifted vehicles to all players and increased their allowances to the sum of ₦3,000,000 each. It has also been alleged that businessman Obi Cubana, Chairman of the Cubana Group, donated ₦200,000,000 towards housing allowances and accommodation for players, staff, and technical crew.
“Enyimba FC wishes to categorically state that these claims are false, misleading, and without any basis in fact. At no time were such gestures made as reported,” the club said.
The NPFL side urged its fans, stakeholders, media partners, and the general public to disregard the unfounded stories.
It reiterated its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and the continued welfare of its players and staff.
