Gov. Abiodun Presents ₦1.5tn to House of Assembly for 2025 Budget

The Governor of Ogun State, Mr. Dapo Abiodun on Wednesday presented ₦1,054,542,020,147.47 (One Trillion, Fifty-Four Billion, Five Hundred and Forty-Two Million, Twenty Thousand, One Hundred and Forty-Seven Naira, Forty-Seven Kobo) proposal to the state’s House of Assembly for 2025 budget.

Mr. Abiodun stated that the appropriation bill tagged the “Budget of Hope and Prosperity” consists of ₦453.56 billion in recurrent expenditure and ₦600.98 billion in capital expenditure.

He highlighted the key allocations as follows: Personnel Costs: ₦120.1 billion, Consolidated Revenue Costs: ₦37.49 billion, Public Debt Charges: ₦76.07 billion, Overhead Costs: ₦219.86 billion, while the major projects are Renovation and equipping of hospitals and 80 primary health centers as well as Construction and rehabilitation of roads across the state.

Others are Extension of Metro Rail lines: Redline (Agbado-Kajola), Blueline (Okokomaiko-Agbara/Lusada), and Purpleline, Construction of Ogun Lodge in Abuja, OGIRS Revenue House, and a modern Court of Appeal & Rehabilitation of 150 km of feeder roads and construction of fire stations.

The Revenue Sources are: Internally Generated Revenue: ₦314.82 billion (₦120.97 billion from the State IRS and ₦193.85 billion from MDAs), Federal Allocations & VAT: ₦228.06 billion and Capital Receipts, Loans, and Grants: ₦472.66 billion.

However, the Sectoral Allocations include Infrastructure: ₦284.46 billion (27%), Education: ₦117.83 billion (17%), Health: ₦134.54 billion (13%), Agriculture & Industry: N65.39 billion (6%), Housing & Community Development: N66.38 billion (6%) and Social Protection: ₦39.84 billion (4%).

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency and fiscal discipline, “as demonstrated by achieving 79% of our revenue target in 2024.”

He added: “Our focus will be on completing ongoing projects under the ISEYA pillars and aligning with the Medium-Term National Development Plan (2021-2025) to ensure sustainable development and prosperity for all Ogun State residents.”

Similarly, Governor Abiodun commissioned the newly renovated Ogun Assembly Complex, which has stood for 45 years on Wednesday.

His words: “Today, as I present the 2025 appropriation bill, I officially commission the newly renovated complex. This renovation is the fulfillment of a promise I made last year, during the presentation of the 2024 appropriation bill. I committed to ensuring that the Assembly Complex, which had fallen into disrepair, would be given a fresh look before the presentation of the 2025 budget.”

He mentioned that the renovated complex now boasts essential facilities, including a reliable water supply and ensuite offices for all members, providing a much more conducive environment for legislative work.

The governor noted that the transformation will ensure that Ogun lawmakers have the tools and space necessary to carry out their duties effectively.

He expressed gratitude to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, and all the members of the Ogun State House of Assembly for their continued support and collaboration.

“I am confident that together, we will work towards the swift passage of the budget, and continue to strengthen the relationship between the Executive and the Legislature,” he enthused.
