Manchester City duo of Erling Haaland and Phil Foden have been nominated for the 2023/2024 Premier League Player of the Season.
The nominees also include the duo of Arsenal’s midfield, Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice as well as Newcastle striker, Alexander Isak.
Others are Cole Palmer, Ollie Watkins and Liverpool centre back, Virgil van Dijk.
Haaland has been instrumental to City’s title challenge having netted 25 times (the leading goalscorer thus far) with Pep Guardiola’s men in second place (82 points) after playing 35 games. The Norwegian international has equally recorded 5 assists amounting to 30 goal contributions.
The nomination of Foden, 23, can also be attributed to his performances in the City set up. The versatile player has registered 16 goals and provided 8 assists.
While Odegaard has been involved in 16 goals (8 goals and 8 assists), his teammate, Rice has found the back of the net seven (7) times and assisted on 8 occasions.
Palmer, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City hit the ground running with the west London club and was rewarded with a place in the nominees’ list having garnered 21 goals (second behind Haaland) and 9 assists.
Isak in Newcastle colours has scored 20 goals and an assist to his name, while Watkins has been on top of his game with 19 goals and 12 assists provided.
Similarly, Van Dijk has put in a good shift defensively for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s side sits third on the standings with 78 points.
Recall that Haaland won the Premier League Player of the Season award together with the Young Player award after scoring 36 goals in 35 league matches last season. He became the first player to achieve the feat after winning both awards.
In the same vein, the quartet of Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Alexander Isak and Cole Palmer were also nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.
Others are English international, Bukayo Saka, William Saliba, Kobbie Mainoo and Destiny Udogie.
The winner will be announced on May 18, following a decision by public vote and Premier League panel.
