Kano Police Arrest 105 Suspects for Theft, Other Crimes, Recover ₦82.7m Worth of Illicit Drugs

The Kano State Police Command has arrested 105 suspects for various criminal offences, including armed robbery, motorcycle and vehicle theft, drug trafficking, and thuggery during the month of September 2025.
The arrests comprise 17 suspected armed robbery, 8 suspected drug dealers, 9 suspected motor vehicle thieves, 5 suspected motorcycle thieves, 9 suspected thieves, and 57 suspected thugs (Yan-Daba).
The Kano Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this during a press briefing on the security landscape, sustained crime fighting efforts, and successes in crime prevention, management, and control, held at Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano on Monday, September 29, 2025.
“In compliance with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, on adopting community-centered proactive crime prevention strategies ahead of the fourth and festive quarter of the year, the Kano State Police Command has intensified its strategic initiatives, particularly through Operation Kukan Kura,” CP Bakori stated.
He affirmed that the operation has been instrumental in curbing all forms of criminal activities and fostering a safer environment for all, emphasising that it is a comprehensive security initiative designed to tackle all forms of crimes in the state, with active involvement of the public.
“This operation has yielded remarkable results in disrupting criminal networks and preventing potential threats. By engaging with the community, leveraging intelligence and use of technology, the Command has been able to stay ahead of criminal elements and respond effectively to emerging security challenges.
“No doubt, with massive reduction in crimes, the Command has achieved significant breakthroughs within one month, including the arrest of suspects for various felonious offenses and the recovery of dangerous weapons and large quantities of illicit drugs.
“Notably, we recently recovered Tramadol and Pregabalin Tablets worth ₦82,725,000.00 in Rimin Auzinawa Quarters, Kano, which will be handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution. In total, 105 suspects were arrested in 30 major cases, including armed robbery, illicit drug dealings, theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles, and thuggery,” he remarked.
Bakori highlighted the recovered items and prohibited substances from the suspects, including 3 AK-47 rifles, 3 English pistols, three revolver pistols, 1 locally made AK-47 rifle, 1 dane gun, 2 locally made pistols, 7 live ammunition and 5 empty shells of live ammunition.
The recovered items also include 7 motor vehicles, 2 tricycles, 13 motorcycles, 3 cows, 38 swords, 42 cutlasses, 57 knives, 31 sharp irons, 603 packets of tramadol tablets (60,300 pieces, valued at ₦60,300,000.00), and 6 cartons of pregabalin capsules (44,850 pieces, valued at ₦22,425,000.00).
Others are 523 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, along with other illicit drugs, 5 Point of Sale (POS machines), and various stolen properties.
The Police Commissioner expressed gratitude to Kano residents for their support and cooperation, acknowledging that the collaboration has been instrumental in the Command’s successes.
He expressed readiness for continued collaboration in the Command’s quest to build a safer and more secured state for all, while reiterating the Command’s commitment to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and preventing crime.
Bakori also urged residents to continue supporting the police by providing credible information and expressed gratitude to the media for its role in disseminating information to the public.
He added: “Together, we can ensure that our citizens are informed about the steps being taken to secure Kano State.”
