Kebbi Police Arrest 5 Suspects for Criminal Conspiracy, Theft, Recover ₦4.9m Worth of Herbicide

Detectives of the Kebbi State Police Command have arrested five suspects for criminal conspiracy, theft, money laundering and other offences.
The arrested suspects are Nura Abdullahi (45), Nura Muhammaed (50), Bashar Abubakar (45), Sanusi Bojo (43), all from Birnin Kebbi town, and Aliyu Muhammad (48) from Kashin Zama village, Aliero Local Government Area (LGA).
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, on Friday.
“On the 20th May, 2025, Springfield Agro Limited, a company based in Lagos, discovered and reported to the Police, that its consignment of 1925 cartons of Roundup 360XL Herbicide, valued at the sum of One Hundred and Eighty Four Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira (₦184,800,000:00), destined for Suleja/Abuja, was unlawfully diverted to Birnin Kebbi, without the company’s authorisation by the truck driver, one Alhaji Bala now at large and reasonably suspected to have been sold at significantly reduced prices by an unregistered dealers,” the statement noted.
CSP Abubakar revealed that swift action by a team of detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, led to the tracing of the stolen items and the arrest of the suspects.
He added that the detectives successfully recovered the sum of ₦4,905,000 million, proceeds from the illicit sale, and 1562 cartons of Roundup 360XL herbicide as exhibits.
Reacting to the development, Kebbi Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, commended the detectives for their professionalism and swift action.
Sani urged them to intensify efforts to apprehend the truck driver and Alhaji Danladi Maitaki (aka Danbatta), who are still at large, for further investigation.
He further directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, to conduct a discreet investigation and ensure diligent prosecution.
