
The Kebbi State Police Command, through its team of detectives, has arrested six suspects involved in the theft of gold items, including necklaces, bangles, and rings valued at ₦109,578,000.
The arrested suspects include an officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Ibrahim Abubakar Ka’oje; Sa’adu Ibrahim Darhami; Hamza Ahmad; Nasiru Sani; Tasi’u Umar; and Ibrahim Usman Oroji.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Command‘s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, on Wednesday.
“On the 4th September, 2025, a complaint of theft received at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, revealed that sometime between 2024 and 2025, unknown person(s) dishonestly trespassed into the residence of Hajiya Rabi ‘f’ of Ka’oje town, Bagudo LGA of Kebbi State, and stole Five (5) gold necklaces, Nine (9) gold bangles, and Four (4) gold rings of about 782.7 cumulative weight, valued at One Hundred and Nine Million, Five Hundred and Seventy Eight Thousand Naira (₦109,578,000:00), belonging to her daughter one Hajiya Amina Hassan Bello and her siblings.
“On receipt of the complaint, a team of detectives immediately swung into action and succeeded in arresting one Ibrahim Abubakar Ka’oje, an officer, attached to the Nigerian Correctional Service. In the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime. He added further that the stolen items have subsequently been sold to one Sa’adu Ibrahim Darhami, Hamza Ahmad, all ‘m’ of Sokoto State, Nasiru Sani ‘m’ of Birnin Kebbi, and Tasi’u Umar ‘m’ of Zauro town, Birnin Kebbi LGA of Kebbi State.
“Credible investigation further revealed that the suspect was assisted by one Ibrahim Usman Oroji in disposing some of the stolen items and received the sum of Two Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦2,500,000:00) of the proceeds for himself,” the statement reads in part.
CSP Abubakar disclosed that another individual, identified as Mustapha Hassan, along with other accomplices still at large, helped the suspect conceal part of the crime’s proceeds by facilitating the purchase of two plots of land in Birnin Kebbi metropolis.
He affirmed that investigations are ongoing, while also highlighting the items recovered so far from the suspects, including two golden bangles, one Haoujeu motorcycle, an iPhone 16, a Samsung Galaxy Ultra, and a Samsung Flip.
Commenting on the breakthroughs recorded, Kebbi Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, commended the promptness, professionalism, and intelligence-driven policing strategies demonstrated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID Birnin Kebbi, and his team of detectives.
CP Sani urged the officers to sustain the momentum by apprehending the remaining suspects and ensuring the recovery of more exhibits.
He reiterated the Command‘s commitment to combating violent crimes and maintaining a safe and secure environment in the state.
