KLT Customs, NDLEA Strengthen Alliance to Combat Drug Trafficking

The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reinforced its alliance with the Tin Can Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to combat drug trafficking within the maritime domain.
The partnership was reinforced when the newly appointed Commander of the NDLEA, Tin Can Strategic Command, Commander Solomon Gbadebo Omotosho, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the KLT Command on Wednesday.

The visit was aimed at formally introducing the Commander and enhancing collaboration between both agencies in the collective fight against narcotics trafficking within the maritime corridor.
Receiving the delegation, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Bolaji Lukman Adigun, described the engagement as timely, noting that the port environment remains a critical frontline in preventing the movement of illicit drugs.
DC Adigun reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to robust enforcement while ensuring the smooth facilitation of legitimate trade.
He emphasised the importance of sustained intelligence sharing, coordinated cargo profiling, and joint examination procedures as key strategies to enhance operational effectiveness and curb the activities of drug trafficking syndicates.
In his remarks, Commander Omotosho stated that the visit was necessary to establish a strong working relationship with the KLT Command and to reinforce operational synergy in addressing narcotics trafficking.
He stressed the need for seamless communication, proactive intelligence exchange, and coordinated enforcement actions to achieve measurable results.
The Commander reiterated the NDLEA’s commitment to working closely with the NCS to disrupt illicit drug networks and strengthen national security.

The visit featured an exchange of plaques between both agencies, symbolising goodwill and a shared commitment to sustained cooperation.
The engagement concluded with both agencies reaffirming their resolve to deepen collaboration, enhance operational coordination, and maintain a united front in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime borders from illicit activities.
