The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to an inclusive and sustainable approach to developing the state’s blue economy, with emphasis on collaboration among key stakeholders.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this known at the 4th Ehingbeti Blue Economy Hub summit themed, “Securing Nigeria’s Blue Economy: Need to Strengthen Regulatory and Maritime Frameworks for Sustainable Coastal Development,” held on Thursday, September 17, 2026 in Lagos.
The Governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, said the state’s blue economy agenda had evolved beyond its historical association with Lagos Island to encompass coastal communities across the various divisions of Lagos State.
He stated that the development of Lagos’ blue economy requires collaboration among government, the private sector, traditional institutions, coastal communities and other relevant stakeholders to unlock the economic potential of the state’s waterways and coastal assets.
Sanwo-Olu encouraged stakeholders to use the platform to develop a comprehensive communiqué containing practical recommendations for advancing the state’s blue economy agenda and strengthening sustainable coastal development.
He added that the state government remains committed to ensuring that blue economy development is inclusive and sustainable, with coastal communities and other relevant stakeholders playing active roles in the process.
