Mohbad’s Demise: Police Vows to Carry out Diligent Investigation

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has vowed to carry out a diligent investigation into the death of late Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

This was made known a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Thursday.

Mohbad passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, following a long battle with his former record label, Marlian Records owned by singer, Naira Marley.

The circumstances surrounding his death are still unknown as stories from various quarters varies, with a report saying he passed away at a hospital after suffering from an ear infection.

The 27-year-old has since been buried in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.

The petition filed by Mohbad at Alagbon.

It was also discovered that the deceased had filed a petition at the Force Criminal Investigations Department (Force-CID), Lagos Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, since June, against some group of persons affiliated to his former label, one Sam Larry and others, alleging threat to his life, amongst other issues, which was not seen to its conclusion.

Reacting to the issue of Police lack of action on the petition, the force spokesperson said on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter: “I think you need to be educated on this matter. A petition sent to an AIG FCID Annex Alagbon lagos wouldn’t have been seen or noticed at the FHQ Abuja. FHQ was not aware of such a petition until now that it went viral on social media.

“The Alagbon office has explained the constraint it experienced in the case. So, there is no need to attack the Force Headquarters on this petition filed. However, the lagos command has been tasked to take up the alleged murder case for investigation”.

Subsequently, the force’s verified X handle released a statement expressing its condolences over the Feel Good and Ask About Me crooner’s demise.

The statement added that it is committed to a comprehensive investigation into the matter, as the Lagos State Commissioner of Police has been tasked to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death, while encouraging family and close associates with valuable information to come forward.

It read: “We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fans of late Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known as Mohbad, who tragically passed away recently. We understand the concerns surrounding his untimely demise and the various speculations that have arisen.

“The Nigeria Police Force is committed to a comprehensive investigation into this matter, as the Lagos State Commissioner of Police has been tasked to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death. Rest assured, updates will be provided as investigations unfold.

“We encourage family members or close associates with valuable information to approach the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to assist in this process.

“In the meantime, we kindly request that individuals refrain from making statements or engaging in activities that could jeopardize the ongoing investigation.

“Your trust and support are deeply valued”.
