‘My Life, Family under Threat over New Year Message’ – Obi

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi has voiced out about his safety and that of his family following his new year message.

Recall that Obi in the message via a press conference on Thursday criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating that Nigeria remains one of the poverty capitals of the world.

He expressed displeasure over the economic challenges of Nigeria, and advised President Tinubu to reduce the cost of governance. Obi also urged the President to visit the various states of the country so as to have a better understanding of the challenges of the country amongst other things.

Reacting to Obi’s remarks on Arise News, the National Public Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Felix Morka stated that the former Anambra Governor has crossed the line multiple times and has it coming for whatever he gets.

Morka said that Obi left no legacy as a governor, adding that he needs to find out why he lost the presidential election and stop being deceptive.

“Have I really crossed the line?”, Obi asked in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, revealing threats to his life and that of his family.

He wrote: “I ask the question because my New Year message has now led to threats against my life, my family, and those around me. While I have received all sorts of messages, one Mr. Felix Morka has gone further to accuse me of “crossing the line” and has warned that I will face the consequences.”

The politician urged those that are yet to see the video to watch, explaining that “if I have truly crossed the line, I invite anyone to point it out, as I remain committed to upholding decorum.”

He, however, noted that he will not be silenced in his resolve to speak truthfully, especially as Nigeria continues to drift towards undemocratic practices.

“We are increasingly transforming into an authoritarian and repressive regime, where freedom of expression is being systematically suppressed. May God help us create a better and freer society for the sake of our children,” he added.
