The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has debunked claims of a suspension of the ban on sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottle alcoholic products.
This follows reports alleging that the Federal Government ordered NAFDAC to suspend the ban on sachet alcohol.
In a rejoinder signed by the Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, on Wednesday, the regulatory body described the reports as false and misleading, noting that the allegations do not reflect any official communication from the FG.
NAFDAC affirmed that the ban on sachet alcohol remains in full force, saying: “For the avoidance of doubts, NAFDAC has not suspended or lifted the ban. While a temporary window was granted to allow manufacturers and distributors to exhaust existing stocks, the ban itself remains active and enforceable.
“At no time had the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation or any other government agency issued any counter directive to the existing ban placed on sachet alcohol.”
NAFDAC urged all citizens, stakeholders, and the media to disregard any false information suggesting otherwise — and to rely on its official communication channels for accurate information.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health, ensuring regulatory compliance, and carrying out its responsibilities transparently in accordance with established laws and due process.
It also cautioned against the dissemination of unverified information capable of causing unnecessary public anxiety, economic uncertainty, or misinterpretation of government policy.
NAFDAC reiterated its commitment to public health, economic stability, and national interest.
