The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has commended the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for suspending transire processing to bonded warehouses and free trade zones with outstanding reconciliation.
The Secretary-General of NAGAFF, Godfrey Nwosu in a letter addressed to the Comptroller-General of Customs on Friday, said the action demonstrates the Service’s commitment to safeguarding national security and strengthening revenue generation.
Nwosu explained that the suspension would help block potential avenues of revenue leakage while enhancing transparency, compliance and efficiency across customs collection points.
He, however, advised the NCS to consolidate the measure through the deployment of automated reconciliation systems to track transire movements in real time and ensure prompt reconciliation.
Nwosu also called for continuous capacity building for customs officers and freight forwarders, regular engagement with bonded warehouse operators, free trade zone managers and freight forwarders, as well as risk-based monitoring of transactions.
He further recommended an integrated revenue assurance framework across all collection points to promote consistency in revenue collection and reporting.
NAGAFF said it remains ready to collaborate with the NCS in implementing the measures, expressing confidence that they would promote stability in revenue collection and strengthen Nigeria’s economic resilience.
