The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber, Emmanuel Kingsley Odoh, and recovered a locally made pistol and a live cartridge during a stop-and-search operation along the Ibadan-Ife Road.
Odoh was arrested following an intelligence-led operation at about 5:30 p.m. on September 25, 2026, near Ajia Junction.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Olayinka revealed that operatives intercepted and searched a white Mazda bus driven by Sanusi Afeez Adedamola of Owena, which was travelling from Ibadan towards Ondo State.
The search led to the arrest of the suspected armed robber and the recovery of the locally made pistol and live cartridge.
Following the recovery, the firearm and ammunition were immediately secured as exhibits, while the suspect was taken into custody for further investigation.
The Oyo Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed that the case be transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) for discreet investigation.
Olugbenga also ordered the arrest of other members of the alleged syndicate and their prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation.
He stressed that professional and intelligence-led stop-and-search operations help detect and remove firearms and other prohibited items from circulation.
The CP added that such operations disrupt the movement of criminal elements and generate actionable intelligence for broader crime-prevention efforts.
The Command urged members of the public, particularly commuters and residents along major highways, to remain vigilant and provide the police with timely and actionable information.
