The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has commenced final consultations towards the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), with the party awaiting inputs from its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The National Publicity Secretary of NDC, Osa Director, made this known in a statement dated September 21, 2026.
Director noted that Obi and Kwankwaso have held several meetings with the National Leader and other members of the party’s leadership as part of efforts to establish a broad-based and cohesive campaign structure.
He stated that the NDC national leadership had agreed to allow the presidential candidate and his running mate to nominate key officials of the campaign council in consultation with the party.
The positions include the Director-General of the Campaign, Deputy Director-General (North), Campaign Spokesman, Deputy Spokesperson, Head of New Media, Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director, among others.
Director affirmed that a comprehensive organogram for the campaign structure had been developed since August and made available to Obi and Kwankwaso for their consideration, while nominations had also been received from other stakeholders across the country.
He mentioned that the party would announce and inaugurate the PCC once the inputs of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates had been received.
He added that a campaign timetable had also been proposed since August, but arrangements for campaign funding and fundraising were still being concluded, with the candidates expected to spearhead the process.
According to him, funds raised for the campaign would be paid into the presidential campaign account and managed by officers nominated by the presidential candidate and his running mate, alongside the party’s National Treasurer.
He explained that the Finance Director and his deputy would work with the National Treasurer to manage campaign funds in line with the principles of transparency and accountability, particularly given the party’s obligation to render accounts to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in accordance with the Electoral Act.
The inauguration of the PCC, initially scheduled for the first week of September, was postponed due to the travel schedule of the presidential candidate.
The NDC also appealed to its candidates at all levels to restrain their supporters and support groups from engaging in internal disputes, urging them to concentrate on the elections.
“There are no battles to fight within the NDC,” the party said, urging its candidates and supporters to focus on winning the elections.
The party further directed all state and Local Government Area Chairmen to immediately convene meetings with candidates and relevant stakeholders to compile and harmonise lists of party agents for the forthcoming general elections.
It said that two sets of agents should be produced — one for the National Assembly elections and another for the governorship and state assembly elections.
The lists, according to the statement, would be scrutinised and ratified by the party leadership, including the presidential candidate and his running mate, before training of the agents begins.
The NDC gave state and LGA Chairmen two weeks from the date of the directive to conclude the exercise and submit the final lists.
The committee responsible for appointing the party agents is chaired by Comrade Babatunde Alli, Deputy National Chairman (South), with Vin Martin Ilo as Secretary. Dr. Yunusa Tanko, Nafiu Dankura, and the National Vice Chairmen of the six geopolitical zones are also members of the committee.
The party added that the measures were part of efforts to strengthen its campaign organisation and ensure adequate preparation for the forthcoming general elections.
