A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has described the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as a “healing ticket” capable of uniting Nigerians.
Galadima stated that the ticket was intended to unite Nigerians and address divisions in the country.
He made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
“We are running a Nigerian government. That is why we call this ticket a healing ticket for Nigeria,” Galadima said.
He noted that Obi and Kwankwaso complemented each other, adding that their different political backgrounds and areas of influence could be harnessed to build a government that represents Nigerians across the country.
Galadima also identified the restoration of public confidence in governance as one of the key objectives of the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.
“Secondly, we want to create public confidence in governance, in government, and in the people running our country,” he said.
He added that the ticket would also prioritise security, saying they would seek to create an environment where Nigerians could farm, trade, and work without fear.
On the economy and fuel prices, Galadima mentioned that the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket could significantly reduce the cost of petrol by addressing what he described as loopholes and alleged theft surrounding subsidy payments.
He stressed that an investigation into the system would reveal that the subsidy being discussed was not genuinely reaching its intended beneficiaries.
“In six months, when we plug all the loopholes, we will have discovered that there is no subsidy even being paid to anybody.”
Galadima further claimed that eliminating alleged leakages could bring down the price of petrol to below ₦400 per litre.
“We are saying that when we investigate and catch people who are stealing our money with subsidy, it may even come down to less than ₦400.”
He equally questioned the description of some government expenditure as “energy security expenses”, arguing that such spending amounted to subsidy under another name.
Galadima explained that the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket would approach the issue by addressing the alleged financial leakages rather than simply removing support for fuel prices.
He maintained that Obi and Kwankwaso were “populist politicians” committed to policies he said would benefit ordinary Nigerians.
