Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kingsley Moghalu, has rejected his inclusion in the policy team of the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, for the 2027 election.
Atiku had named Moghalu as a member of his policy team, with Mohammed Hayatudeen as Chairman.
Others include Professor Mohammed Sagagi as Deputy Chairman, Professor Mustapha Akinkunmi and Senator Abdul Ningi as members, and Aare Aremijoye as Secretary.
Reacting to the development in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Moghalu expressed surprise at his inclusion, saying he was not consulted and did not give consent for his name to be published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team.
“I am not, in fact, a member of Atiku’s policy team, even unofficially or in any advisory capacity,” he affirmed.
Moghalu recalled that he quit partisan politics in Nigeria in 2022 and has since maintained his non-partisan posture in the country’s national affairs.
“I am not a member or sympathiser of any political party in Nigeria,” he said, stressing that his primary engagements are as President of the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET) and CEO of Sogato Strategies.
He described IGET as a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy, while Sogato Strategies is a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.
Moghalu reiterated his commitment to Nigeria and its progress but explained that such commitment does not have to entail any partisan alignment.
He added that he has adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship.
