NIJ to Commence Students’ Week on Monday

The prestigious monotechnic, Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) on Monday (today) will start its students’ week for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The lecture-free week activities themed “Loud Am”, a pidgin ‘slogan’ that means “Amply it” will take place in the school premises starting with the grand opening and NIJ Got Talent followed by cultural day on Tuesday.

Higher National Diploma (HND) 2, also known as Frontiers Football Club and the part-timers with the sobriquet, ‘The Knights’ – the defending champions of the students’ league/provost cup will face-off in the final of the 2024 edition for the sports day on Wednesday, alongside other sporting activities.

The run of events is expected to gather momentum with an elaborate show/parade when attention shifts to pageantry on Thursday – an avenue that will bring about the emergence of a new MISS NIJ and MR NIJ.

While career show and concert will take centre stage on Friday, the students’ week will culminate in the the grand finale/dinner & awards night on Saturday – celebrating moments of refreshment and recognition for those deemed exceptional in various awards categories.

The practising journalists had earlier kicked-off the pre-students’ week events last Wednesday, June 19 with the ‘Loud & Clean’ campaign where they cleaned up Ogba area of Lagos and its surroundings – and sensitized the residents on the significance of cleanliness in a bid to mitigate the cholera outbreak in the state.

On Thursday, it was time to reminisce the old times in celebration of old school day as students were dressed in old school attires, engaged in activities of those times, with the presence of a Disc Jockey (DJ) who dished out old school music to brighten the atmosphere.

Religious activities were also included in the pre-students’ week events as both Christian and Muslim students participated in ‘Honour God’, themed ‘Sound the Trumpet’ and ‘Faith Amplified’ respectively on Friday – and it all ended with the Bonfire Night (display of fireworks) on Saturday.
