The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reached a partnership agreement with Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to eradicate the plague of substandard products in the state.
The agreement was reached on Thursday, March 27, when Engr. Emmanuel Hussaini, the State Coordinator 1 and Engr. Unuja Ndukwe, the Head of Inspectorate and Compliance Directorate, South South and South East Region of SON paid a familiarisation visit to Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC State Commandant at the Command’s headquarters in Awka.
Superintendent of Corps, SC Okadigbo Edwin, the Head, Media and Tactical Operations of the Command disclosed this in a statement.
In his remarks, Commandant Olatunde commended SON for not relenting in its regulatory functions to reduce the impact of substandard products on the economy and health of Nigerians.
He acknowledged the historical support of NSCDC to SON, and expressed gratitude for the enforcement and compliance roles being played by SON in quality control and verification of products.
The Anambra NSCDC boss stressed the importance of collaboration between both agencies to standardise products circulating in the markets, and bring to the barest minimum the number of fake and counterfeit products across the state.
Earlier in his address, Engr. Ndukwe mentioned that their visit was to rekindle the partnership between the two organisations towards combatting the menace of substandard products in the state.
He noted that the influx of fake and substandard products into the country would be controlled through effective collaborative efforts and information sharing among the relevant government agencies.
Similarly, Engr. Hussaini lauded the existing synergy between NSCDC and SON in the aggressive campaign to combat the proliferation of substandard products through sweeping operations in the discharge of the agency’s statutory mandate.
