The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced an investigation into an incident involving a Challenger 604 aircraft operated by Triton, after its door separated shortly after take-off from Abuja en route to Lagos.
The aircraft, with registration number T7-SEI, departed Abuja at 1612 UTC (5:12pm local time) on Thursday October 15, 2026, but declared a mayday when the aircraft was passing 3,500 feet, about three nautical miles into the flight.
The crew subsequently returned to Abuja, landing safely on Runway 22 at 1634 UTC (5:34pm local time). Nine persons were on board, comprising three crew members and six passengers.

According to a statement signed by
Director General of the NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., the separated door has been recovered and secured at its wreckage hangar as the Bureau begins investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Bureau said it would provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
The NSIB is Nigeria’s multimodal transport investigation agency responsible for investigating transport accidents and incidents to establish their probable causes and recommend safety improvements.
