Over One Million Out-of-School Children Have Returned to Class – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu says his administration has returned more than one million children who were previously out of school to classrooms.

Tinubu made the disclosure on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, while highlighting his administration’s interventions and achievements in the education sector.

The President stated that his administration remains committed to ensuring that every Nigerian child has access to education, irrespective of their place of birth or the financial circumstances of their parents.

He noted that education is a major priority of his Renewed Hope administration, stressing that the opportunities he enjoyed through education should be accessible to every Nigerian child.

While highlighting other interventions in the sector, Tinubu revealed that over ₦372 billion had been provided in student loans through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to support institutional fees and students’ upkeep.

He also declared that the technical and vocational education programme had attracted over 2.8 million applications, while 38 technical colleges had been rehabilitated.

According to him, students in federal and selected state technical colleges now enjoy free school fees, boarding, textbooks, and uniforms.

On university education, the President said that his administration had reached a new agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), providing for a 40 per cent increase in academic staff remuneration and measures to improve stability in universities.

He stressed the need for Nigerian students to complete their university programmes within the stipulated period, maintaining that four-year courses must take four years.

Tinubu further disclosed that the Federal Government was investing ₦110 billion in the rehabilitation of 24 medical schools.

He added that annual nursing enrolment had increased from 28,000 to 115,000, while medical and dental enrolment rose from 5,000 to 12,000.

The President also highlighted investments in teacher development, expanded educational opportunities for girls, and the implementation of a new national curriculum that restores Nigerian History to classrooms.

He commended the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmad, and the entire education team for their efforts in advancing the sector.

Tinubu also invited Nigerians to explore the interactive A-Z of the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI) through edu4pbat.ng to learn about available programmes, reforms, and opportunities.

He encouraged parents, students, and teachers to use the platform to identify educational opportunities and support available to them, while urging Nigerians to provide feedback on challenges affecting education in their communities.

The President explained that such feedback would help the government identify problems and address them.

He reaffirmed his commitment to improving access to education, noting that a child’s circumstances at birth should not determine the limits of their ambition.
